Brandl & Schlesinger publishes about sixteen books annually. We publish literary fiction and non-fiction, biography, Australian poetry, translations, visual arts and academic journals. We do not publish children’s literature, self-help, how-to guides, inspirational books, or genre fiction such as romance, science fiction, horror stories or westerns.

Prose Submission Guidelines

Work submitted for the consideration for fiction or non-fiction should be sent by mail only. Please include a synopsis of the work , first three sample chapters and your CV. If you wish your manuscript to be returned, then please enclose a stamped self-addressed envelope with sufficient postage or an email address for reply if you do not wish manuscript returned. Manuscripts with no return postage or email address will not be responded to.

All submissions are sent at the sender’s risk; we can accept no responsibility for lost or damaged manuscripts so please ensure you keep a personal copy of your work.

Please send your manuscript to:

The Commissioning Editor
Brandl & Schlesinger
PO Box 127 Blackheath NSW 2785

The manuscripts are read by Brandl & Schlesinger editors and we try to respond to submissions within three months of receipt. We do not accept submissions by email.

Poetry Submission Guidelines

Because Brandl & Schlesinger have so few slots available for new collections of poetry, we are unfortunately unable to consider work by poets who have not published extensively in major journals and magazines. Manuscripts sent by previously unpublished or not widely published poets will not be considered.

If you have been published extensively and would like us to consider your work, please send us a query letter. In this query, please include:

1. a covering letter containing relevant autobiographical information and a brief description of the manuscript;
2. a list of published works;
3. a short (ten poems or less) sample from the manuscript;
4. and a self-addressed envelope (SAE) for reply and return of the sample.

We have a small editorial staff, which sometimes makes the reading process slower than we or authors would like. However, we try to respond to submissions, including queries, within three months.
