John Tranter was born in Cooma, NSW, in 1943. He has published 13 volumes of poetry and has won the Kenneth Slessor Prize for Poetry in 1989 and The Age Book of the Year Poetry Award in 1993. His poems are included in major Australian anthologies. He is currently the editor of Jacket, an internet poetry magazine. He lives in Sydney.
